r/antiwork. Posted by u/Southern-Reaction-38 18 hours ago My boss took a 2 week vacation while we're understaffed - Now it's just me I've been here a little under a year, I work as an Event Manager and she's my Director.

4 months ago, the Senior Event Manager moved over to a different department. She's had that position open for months, but didn't open it to the public until just a few weeks ago. Since then, I have been completely overworked. I work 7 days a week. On my days off, she calls, texts, emails, etc. I'm beyond burnt out and exhausted. I have 75% of the events and she takes 25%.

Anyways, she is in the middle of interviewing several people for this position, but hasn't hired anyone yet. She just went on a 2 week vacation starting yesterday and there have been SO many event "pop ups" that I now have 14 events between now and the 31st. Just in the last day, I got 3 pop ups.

And it's just me, alone. I've been on the phone all day with clients trying to get details for their events, running around and distributing the information to the appropriate departments. It's been an absolute mess.

WHY would you take a 2 WEEK VACATION when it's just us two!?!??!??! Apparently there used to be 8 people in my position. Now it's just 1. I'm exhausted. Good news though.... I just got a call that I got another job!!!!

Chilled MonkeyBrains1 18 hr. ago edited 18 hr. ago Good news though.... I just got a call that I got another job!!!! Nice. If you're reasonably sure this new position will be an improvement, I'd just bail right now & let her come back to the chaos she deserves. She's obviously aware that you're overextended, and just as obviously doesn't give a , SO you shouldn't either.

The only thing that might justify staying for even a short while longer is if you'd built a valuable relationship with one of your current clients, esp. if any of them might be, or become, a client at your new job. And even then, I'd immediately cut my hours back to normal. Nobody should be expected to maintain the schedule you describe, regardless of pay.

toastedmarsh7 18 hr. ago Can you start your new job tomorrow? Then change your phone number if they're calling your personal phone. If it's a work phone, leave it on the desk when you leave for the day.

C64128 18 hr. ago Were you at least getting paid eight times as much? Seriously what's to stop you from immediately leaving and letting the phones ring? If she was going to fire you, you'd be gone instantly.

MM_in_MN 15 hr. ago Who schedules these pop up events? Who sets the schedule for the rest of your bookings? Sometimes you have to say NO to more events. Your schedule is X events a week, or day, or whatever. With X days after all details confirmed to host event for making arrangements. Do not accept more clients than can be managed.
